Virginia Meyer is a 30-year salon industry veteran and a passionate advocate of beauty industry education. Virginia began her beauty industry career in the salon and from there, she has experienced all aspects of running and managing a successful business including sales, distribution, salon development and education—the latter of which led to her role with Aveda Corporation. It was this experience that provided Virginia with the understanding of a need for specific hair color education and an enhanced salon hair color experience, which led to her co- founding redCHOCOLATE Consulting and Fourteenjay Salon in New York City with David Adams. In her current role, Virginia is responsible for the day-to-day running of both companies, business education, overall strategy and operations. Virginia spent 20 years with the Aveda network, with seven of those years in the role of Vice president of Education. Throughout this role, Virginia led the vision and strategy for Aveda technical, creative and business education globally where she became known for her exceptional execution of highly successful projects and events. Virginia led production teams in the execution of three sold-out Aveda Congress events, including the 30th Anniversary Aveda Congress in 2008. She also oversaw numerous Master Jam shows and was responsible for taking the Master Jam concept global, with shows in London, Milan and Berlin. Virginia also oversaw the growth of the Aveda Institutes to 45 locations, the development of the Aveda Advanced Academies in New York, London and Berlin, and the creation of Aveda Business College—a results-based business education program for salon owners and managers. Prior to joining Aveda in a corporate capacity, Virginia held the position of Vice President/General Manager of Juut Salonspa, a multi-location group of Aveda Concept Salons, training centers and Aveda Experience Centers located in Minneapolis, Minn. and Palo Alto, Calif. During her time with Juut, Virginia was responsible for implementing the Juut Salonspa Advanced Training Salon. She also facilitated the company’s acquisition of its first salon in California and under her leadership, annual sales doubled. Virginia’s mantra is “good to great”—she is passionate about creating the condition that allows service providers and salons to step into their vision of excellence and to provide the tools, training, coaching and support that can make that possible. Virginia is known for her acute ability to see things from the point of view of both the salon owner and the service provider and because of that, has garnered enormous respect from peers, students and professionals alike.
